DT4810 — Full Upgrade
The DT4810 is a compact digital instrument developed by Nuclear Instruments, designed to emulate radiation detection systems in real time. It generates a continuous, statistically consistent stream of analog pulses based on user-defined parameters — including pulse shape (exponential or rectangular), energy distribution (fixed amplitude or arbitrary spectrum), time distribution (constant or Poissonian), and noise and baseline conditions.
Unlike traditional arbitrary waveform generators, the DT4810 operates in real time without relying on preloaded waveform sequences, allowing virtually unlimited acquisition duration while preserving the statistical properties of the generated signals. The device is fully controlled through a Web Interface accessible via Ethernet or USB, and requires no software installation on the host machine.
What's in this package
A Full Install Upgrade is distributed as a file with the .nsys extension. It contains a complete Operating System (OS) image for the DT4810 Digital Detector Emulator, replacing the entire system software.
A Full Install Upgrade changes the Major Version of the device. It is required when the target version has a different Major Version than the one currently installed (e.g. upgrading from 1.4 to 2.3). Unlike Incremental Upgrades, Full Install Upgrades also support downgrades (e.g. reverting from 1.4 to 1.1), since the complete OS image is replaced.
A Full Install Upgrade replaces the OS image and causes the device to reboot into Recovery Mode during installation. The process takes longer than an Incremental Upgrade due to the larger file size. User settings (login password, Ethernet configuration, output configuration, saved configurations, and saved spectra) are preserved after the upgrade.
Installation
Prerequisites
- The DT4810 must be powered on and accessible via its Web Interface (Ethernet or USB), or accessible via its Recovery Mode static IP (
192.168.50.2). - The current device version can be checked from the Web Interface: Home Page → System → Version Info.
Method 1 — Via Web Interface (Online Update)
- Open the DT4810 Web Interface in a browser and log in.
- Navigate to Settings → Device Upgrade → Online Update.
- If a Full Install Upgrade is available, the version and type are displayed. Click Info to view the full changelog.
- Click Download and Install, then confirm in the dialog.
- The device downloads, verifies, and uploads the
.nsysfile, then reboots automatically into Recovery Mode. - During installation, the display shows the OS UPGRADING screen. The progress can be monitored by connecting to the Recovery Page at
192.168.50.2from a browser. - After the installation completes, the device reboots automatically. Reconnect to the Web Interface and verify the new version under Home Page → System → Version Info.
Method 2 — Via Web Interface (Manual Upload)
- Download the
.nsysfile from this page. - Open the DT4810 Web Interface in a browser and log in.
- Navigate to Settings → Device Upgrade → Manual Upload.
- Click Choose a file and select the downloaded
.nsysfile. - The system performs a compatibility check automatically. If the file is incompatible, an error is shown and the upload is blocked.
- If the file is valid, click Upload, then confirm in the dialog.
- The device uploads the file and reboots into Recovery Mode to complete the OS installation.
- The progress can be monitored from the Recovery Page at
192.168.50.2. After completion, the device reboots automatically.
Method 3 — Via Recovery Mode (advanced)
Use this method if the device cannot boot normally or if you need to restore/downgrade the OS directly.
- Download the
.nsysfile from this page. - Boot the device in Recovery Mode: press and hold the Power/Navigation switch while powering on, then move the lever left or right until the display shows the LOADING RECOVERY screen.
- Once the RECOVERY screen appears, open a browser and connect to
192.168.50.2. - From the Recovery Page menu, select the OS upgrade option and upload the
.nsysfile. - The device installs the new OS image and reboots automatically when the process completes.
Do not power off the device or interrupt the network connection during the upgrade process, as this may cause OS corruption. The Recovery Page can also be used to restore the factory OS image or revert to the last installed OS upgrade.
